The only difference I am aware of is the color. But there are codes (at least in my area) against using anything other than standard white pvc (or violet for reclaimed water), for plumbing. The color is supposed to tell whom ever comes in contact with it, as to what is is being used for. (white plumbing / green sewer / grey electrical and etc..)

I do see what you are thinking, as for the gradual sweep of the ell as opposed to a standard pvc ell. I am just not sure there is enough difference (if any at all) to be of any advantage (probably cost more than it is worth). There is a way you can figure it out. All you will need is the amount of water going through the fitting and the overall length and then look up the friction loss for that amount of water through sch 40 pvc (won't be exact, because of the curvature of the fitting, but it would be close). A 1" ell has the equivalent friction loss of 2.25' of 1" sch 40 pvc pipe. ( www.pondarama.com/html/friction_loss_charts.html )
