Hunter Pro-C Controller-no display and error message AL 06 when battery used

My Hunter Pro-C Controller stopped working and has no display. When the 9 volt battery is inserted in the back, error message AL 06 appears/disappears. Resetting the controller doesn't work either. What is the AL 06 message and what do we need to do to fix it?

Are you saying there's no display without the battery? If so either there's a problem with the transformer or there's no power at the outlet. Maybe there's a GFI that's tripped.
Could the AL really be AC?
