System help

Hi I bought a house with an 8 zone existing irrigation system. I tried to get it going this summer and noticed that the ball valve below backflow preventer is cracked. When i change the valve is there anything else I should keep an eye out for. Also I cannot find any of the valves and there is no system map so I "m going in blind.
Any help/suggestions would be great.

Ball valves typically split because they were left in the closed position wither water in them and they froze. If there was water left inside the backflow device you could have some broken parts there as well. Most models are easily taken apart for inspection. The other possibility is that water was left in the underground piping. Best to keep your fingers crossed and see what happens when you turn it on.
