Open Line Straight Down Into Ground???
I'm not quite sure how to describe this... (I am not an irrigation system expert so I'm sure my terminology is incorrect...)
While repairing the previously installed sprinkler system in a newly purchased, 40 year old home, I've come across two different locations where a T-joint is installed with a 1 foot pipe that goes straight down into the ground but isn't connected to anything. In both cases the T-joint is installed a few inches before the line that goes up to the sprinkler head.
I discovered the first one while repairing what I thought was a leak, only to find that the system is apparently pumping water directly into the ground. The second was discovered while trying to determine why a newly replaced sprinkler head wasn't working.
I have to think this was done intentionally but I cannot understand why. Has anyone seen this configutation before?
Thanks in advance.
