using irrigation valves for house water shutoff

I have a unique system on my house water line to control and drain all from a switch inside. It uses two yard irrigation valves. I had to replace the valves and i did not note how they were wired so I need some help. Basically, one valve needs to be open while the other is closed...one valve controls flow and the other drains the house lines while the other is closed. I have a 3 wire transformer. Any ideas? Thanks.

Standard irrigation valves only have 2 wires. If I am interpreting what you are describing correctly. It sounds like there is some sort of relay logic involved.
One relay is "Normally Open" and another "Normally Closed" the only way to tell for sure is to use a meter and measure the voltage.
Then wire the valves accordingly.

I have a switch in the house with on, off and drain settings. I can get the valves to both turn off and on. Problem is when on the drain setting the valve above the main valve needs to open when the main valve is off to drain the lines. Thanks for your reply.
