General rule is no!
But most contractors do- You need to just float the pipe about 2" away from the flame for about 3 seconds and thats it, just enough to provide a little warmth to the pipe. If you notice it turning glossy and melty, cut the tip and start over.
You can also lube with dish soap or KY jelly- this wont harm the plastics
