common wire trouble

hey guys ijust installed a sprinkler system today and every time i connect the white common wire to the control it couses the screan on the remote to start going crazy. every letter and number starts glitching. what could be cousing this? i know a bit about systems but the little issues like this break my head. thanks guys

Disconnect the remote. Deal with it later on. You are supposed to have no power to a controller, when you are connecting wires.
