buzzing sound @ valve but no water

Hi all,

I just moved into a house with an Irritrol system. It's my first time working with an irrigation system and I'm stumped.

I have figured the control unit out. When I set the Control unit to a specific zone (to test) I hear the valve softly buzzing, but no water is getting to the sprinkler heads. What do I troubleshoot next and how?

Does it do this to all the valves? Does any water come on?

Lets start out with asking if the water is turned on?

Find your water source for the irrigation system to verify this..

Any boxes near your water meter, house? Pipe sticking above ground near your house?

I have the exact same problem. I don't want to hijack the O.P.'s thread, but all of my valves hum and there is no water. I have a valve with a orange handle just off the valve box that I have turned parallel with the pipe. Right behind that is a pipe with a valve (similar to a hose hook-up, only it is upside down and where the H2O would come out it is sealed) that I have opened.
