how to find buried control valves?

Have some buried valves that I need to find and have seen some discussion about using a piece of wire to jump and put power to the individual valves inside the controller box in order to cause the solinoid valve to make some noise. My question is from which terminal inside of a hunter pro-c do I jump from...one of the yellow wires coming from the transformer?? Thanks and any other suggestions before I go and get a valve locator would be appreciated

newbie........hunter pro-c transformer problem....I think

had some lightening strike a tree by our house and a lot of devices with plug in transformers stopped working, includng the sprinkler controller. I have a blank screen and when i check the transformer voltage I get 24v on one yellow wire and 0 volts on the other yellow wire. My questions are should I be getting 24v on both wires? If my transformer is bad is there any way to check and make sure the controller box itsellf is still good before I buy a transformer? Thnaks...Joe13
