I've seen Richdels behave like that. Replace it.
It is a Richdel controller, but it is 16 years old and may be wearing out.
A solid-state controller can just spazz out, and randomly activate zones. Brand name? Or home-center cheapo?
Thanks. I will give that a try before I dig up the yard looking for the valve.
You should be able to answer that question by disconnecting the "common" wire from the controller. If that makes the problem go away, then that sounds like power is getting through the controller and activating the valve.
Assuming you have more than one valve, the other thing you can do to trouble shot the issue is to switch the wires the feed the two valves and see if the problem moves to a different valve.
Run comes on with controller turned off
One of the runs on my system comes on randomly with the control box turned off. Is the problem with the controller or the solinoid/valve?
