Does number 3 come on if you turn the master valve on manually at the valve? By opening the bleeder screw or turning the solenoid?
If yes there's a problem with the valve.

If zone 3 is coming on all the time, then the master valve wiring is connected to it somehow. Either a short, bad splice, is there an extra wire in the controller you can wire zone 3 to?

There's a problem with the zone 3 valve? Yep, find the valve and replace or repair it or maybe just adjust it. Depends.

One zone stays on when the master valve is on

I have a 7 zone area and when that master valve is engaged the designated zone turns on along with zone 3. No mater what zone I turn on zone 3 also come on. This doesn't happen if I disconnect the master valve wire leading to the pump. Any thoughts?
