Replacing a Toro EL 6+

Currently my system is controlled by a Toro EL 6+. I want to replace it with a newer easier to use WiFi enabled system. I have been told the Toro EL 6+ is a DC controller and all newer controllers are VAC. How do I go about replacing the controller?
